Case Study for a Disabled Student essays

Case Study for a Disabled Student essays In the case of Marilyn, she is a disabled student that is going from middle school to high school. Due to the fact that she is the only disabled student in the school, she is going through a disengagement period where there has not been a change to engage in actives or the other students. Sometimes when growing up in school and being disabled, it is hard to be out going when kids treat Mariyln as if she was special when it came to the opposite sex. During the very beginning of the new transition, Marilyn also went through the period of Disorientation since it was a new environment and she did not have the same social setting as she did in middle school where other students were used to her having disability and she was used them. It is hard to feel intimated by a new environment while being disabled and meeting new people who feel intimated by a new setting as well. At this point, everyone is feeling disorientated and trying to place in the high school. After awhile, Marilyn and other students were becoming out going with one another because they were more accepting of the new school setting, which is a neutral zone since they have accepted their new life. Despite these odds and what most people said, Marilyn went to high school where she made new beginning and made a complete transition by dating, and being less isolated, which made everyone able to relate to one another. For Marilyn, it is apparent that she made the complete transition from middle school to high school, which made her more out going despite her disability. ...

Manufacturing Overhead Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Manufacturing Overhead - Assignment Example They are used to apply overhead cost throughout the production period. The main reasons why a company would develop predetermined overhead rates would be that; the manager would like to know the accounting system’s valuation of completed jobs before the end of the accounting period. Predetermined overhead rates simplify the organizations record keeping by just simple circulations. Even though an increase in overhead rates leads to lower profits, the introduction of automated QA system replaces the QC inspectors which represent the direct labor. Overhead increases and the direct labor decreases. This leads to an increase in the predetermined overhead rate mainly if it is based on direct labor. Activity Based Costing (ABC) is a powerful decision making tool which is generally used for understanding products, customer costs and profitability based production process. ABC was started in the year 1980s due to the increasing relevance of the traditional cost accounting method. This methodology of ABC if deployed in Borealis Company it will enable the manager to identify the organizations activity with resources to all products and services according to their actual consumption. It assigns more indirect costs to direct costs compared to the convectional costing methods. Borealis organization will have the benefit of more accurate decision making techniques. The manager will be able to decisively estimate the cost elements of all the organization’s products and services and eliminating those products and services that are less profitable and lower the price of those products that are overpriced. Good production strategies can easily evaluated in calculations. The use of t he QC system in the organization can easily be analyzed and the manager will have a strong base on deciding if QC system was the right idea in the production process compared to the 10 QC inspectors. The company will not

Harrod-domar Model for Development Research Paper

Harrod-domar Model for Development - Research Paper Example This study declares that growth is a narrower concept than development. The latter implies there is an increase in the quantity or value of the goods and services as a result of the productivity of the resources available in the economy while the former implies an increase in living standards, improvement in self-esteem needs and freedom from oppression as well as a greater choice available for the people. As growth is felt and seen in the rise in GDP of a country, development happens in the living conditions of its people through the improved access to the economic needs like education, health and recreation. Economic growth is very important but not an adequate condition for an economy to have a progressive development. The increase in the real Gross Domestic Product brought about by the growth in the economy should result to a progressive change or development which can be seen in the structural changes like an increase in numbers of infrastructures in the economy. These additiona l infrastructures may be in form of factory buildings or facilities imply additional investments. Additional investments may also mean more economic opportunities available for the people residing near where the investment was made.According to the discussion economists proposed theories to explain the importance of economic growth to development and vice versa and tried to emphasize particular patterns that each economy must pursue to attain development. II. Research Problem This paper is about one of the commonly used economic theories in relating growth and development in an economy, the Harrod-Domar Growth Theory. Specifically, this paper will present the development of Harrod-Domar Theory and the economists behind its development. Several factors that linked economic growth to economic development will also be tackled in this paper to establish the applicability of the theory. Possible effects associated with the theory will also be examined to find out if it has its significan ce or implication to the development of an economy. III. Research Objective This paper seeks to establish a deeper understanding of the Harrod-Domar Growth Theory by answering the research problem. This is important in order to explain how economies may or may not develop and how may the growth barriers be identified and overcome in the future. After relating the theory’s significance to the economic condition, it aims to form suggestions which are believed to be appropriate in the formulation of different development policies. IV. Literature Review The theory of economic growth asks what factors determine the full- employment growth rate of output overtime. It is important to study growth theory because it both helps explain growth rates and development and why per capita income level differs among countries. This part will present a brief review of the factors significant or related to economic growth.

Population Environment Resource 3 - need in 12 hours Essay

Population Environment Resource 3 - need in 12 hours - Essay Example But the biggest benefit in conservation of energy in a personal level is the personal savings that one can have. For example, instead of spending money on gas for your car, you can save money for a family vacation. Most countries, like Germany and the United States, has experienced an energy crisis (Nolan, p.98). Because of this, the cost of energy began to increase because of the monopoly of this trade. With that, it is evident that energy becomes a controversial issue since the entire nation is using it for whatever purpose it may serve them, like in industrialization or just simply a family’s everyday living, like cooking or watching TV. Aside from the increasing price of fuel and energy because of high consumption, it also impacts the environment in such a way that it pollutes the environment. Energy used proved to produce high levels of carbon dioxide and other gases that is detrimental for human health (Davies and Mazurek, p.237). With this, it can be concluded that high energy consumption coupled with its effects on the national economy and the environment jeopardizes the national security. The government has been developing projects for energy efficiency through the use of alternative energy resources. One form of energy saving program that the government is pushing is the use of solar energy. Since it is an unlimited resource, even if there is a high energy consumption based on the solar power, it will not affect the limited natural resources that we have (Peddle, p.18). Also, it will increase the savings that the nation will have since the individuals are not purchasing and ordering fuel and gas, which costs a considerable amount of money. Aside from controlling the use fuel through by improving fuel efficiency in cars, it is also important that the government look into the energy consumption of each individual. Even if each person uses a fuel-efficient vehicle, if they have a high consumption of gas,

Double and Triple Taxation Must be Eliminated :: Expository Exemplification Essays

Double and Triple Taxation Must be Eliminated President George Bush states that "it's unfair to tax money twice." This statement is actually an example of normative economics and only describes an opinion. It cannot be proven because the term "unfair" is relative to different people; however, not many people would dare to disagree. Especially if the double tax was not aimed only at the large corporations or the richest 10% of the nation but at every hardworking American who brings home a paycheck. Even worse, many of these Americans do not even realize the "double tax," and sometimes even "triple tax," that is imposed on them. Currently, large corporations are required to be taxed a certain percentage of all of their profits. This includes the money from which dividends are derived. When stock holders obtain the dividends from these corporations, the government counts this as individual income and is taxed once again. Six percent of the population would benefit from abolishment of this "double tax." However, the largest part of the income that is taxed twice is the income from the worker's paycheck. Opposed to the 6 percent of dividend holders, this affects every working American. The income is first taxed as a whole and then Social Security and Medicare tax is also deducted. The money that was for Medicare and Social Security is never seen but is counted as if the individual had an opportunity to spend it. What is worse is much of the Social Security money is received from retirees who are again taxed on the income, creating a "triple tax." For Social Security recipients, there is a fixed amount of income allowed to go untaxed but is taxed once exceeded. However, these base amounts do not change with inflation which creates more and more people who are "unfairly" taxed. Also, this "triple tax" is paid all by the same person whereas the dividend tax is shared by both corporations and stockholders. This double tax is imposed on far more people who make much less money than the di vidend holders. The Social Security tax on a worker's paycheck can only be implemented on a certain amount of income, creating a maximum base amount. This base amount does rise with inflation. Therefore, as income increases, the Social Security tax actually decreases. Those who make less money pay a larger percentage of their income to the government through the Social Security tax than the wealthy class does.

WWII Research Paper

WWII Research Paper: Oskar Shindler During a very dark time in history, during World War II, Oskar Schindler saved the lives of thousands of Jews by employing them in his factories, he had little to gain and everything to lose by saving these Jews but he was a courageous individual who did the right thing when others wouldn’t. Oskar Schindler was and opportunist and a businessman. He was one of many who sought to make a profit from the German invasion of Poland. He gained ownership of an enamelware factory and he employed around 1,000 Jews, At first he was only otivated by money, Jewish labor was extremely cheap, but it later turned into him helping and shielding his workers without regards of the cost. Oskar would claim to SS officers that unskilled workers were essential to his factory even though they were not.Under his employment his workers were treated with somewhat respect and were never beaten, let alone killed. The special status of his factory also became a big facto r in his efforts to help save his workers from the work and death camps. When his workers were hreatened with deportation to these camps, he would simply claim exemptions for them, stating that even women, children and handicapped persons were necessary for his workforce. Schindler’s Jewish workers weren’t just things to him, they were human beings and he used all his skills to help protect them. He called them his Schindlerjuden, (Schindler’s Jews) and he often got them out of very difficult situations. After he witnessed the 1942 raid on the Krakow Ghetto, where he was appalled to see many of hisJewish workers being murdered, he began to work increasingly hard to help protect his workers. One-account states that two Gestapo men came to Schindler demanding he give up a family who he had forged identify papers for. After three hours, some drinking and his charm the two Gestapo men left without the family or the incriminating documents. Schindler is also said to have smuggle Jewish children out of the ghettos by giving them to polish nuns who would hide them. Schindler talked the commander of the Plaszow amp, Amon Goth, into making his factory a sub camp of Plazow and having a few hundred Jews work there. In this way the workers would be relatively safer from the German guards. Schindler’s mastery of persuasion and charm saved many Jews lives. In the beginning it was only about making money and becoming rich for Schindler, but it became something much more to him and in the end he died a penny- less hero. Oskcar would constantly buy supplies and extra food off the black market for his workers. He was caught numerous times, but each time he paid off SS officials and as never punished. Towards the end of the war, with Russia drawing nearer, he bribed and convinced SS officials to let him move his work force of over a thousand Jews to another factory. Thus he saved their lives from certain death in the extermination camps which were work ing on the double to eliminate Jews before Russia was upon them. In the new factory Schindler was supposed to be producing weapons and ammunition for the war effort. In the eight months of operation there the barley produced anything.Schindler made now money and his once fortune grew smaller and smaller as he bought supplies for his workers and bribed officials. In the end though it wasn’t about money for Oskar Schindler, it was about helping out his fellow human beings thorough one of the most horrific time periods in history. To him it was about preserving human life and doing the right thing.Bibliography 1)†Oskar Schindler. † United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. 2004. 10 May 2009 . 2)†Oskar Schindler, rescuer of Jews during the Holocaust. † . 10 May 2009 . 3)†Oskar Schindler. † . 2005. 10 May 2009 .
